Monday 8:15am: Don't take Twitter advice
Last week while on Twitter I read a business leader's tweet that proudly proclaimed:
"I was raised to treat the janitor with the same respect as the CEO"
Just reading that saddened me.....so I responded
"They are the same, they are both human"

Why would you treat anyone differently because of the job they do? Why would you not automatically offer the same respect to every human being regardless of what their bank account balance was? Why would you think it's such a revelation that YOU treat people with respect EVEN THOUGH they are a janitor?
That one tweet got me to thinking......do other people think this way as well?
This is a great check up on your referral relationships this week. Are you treating each person in each facility that you visit with respect? Are you giving them all the same consideration as the person who actually makes the referrals? In a business built upon relationships, are you sure that yours are as good as they can be?
Now, I realize that some people may have lost your respect based upon their actions....and that is something that is understandable. The key question is, are you offering the same level of respect, interest, and professionalism to every person you meet regardless of what job they do at your referral sources's office?
I hope the answer is "yes".
This is so much bigger than a home care sales issue. This is a societal issue. In a country that is bitterly divided by politics, race, and religion.....a little respect for your fellow human beings goes a LONG way. Stripped to the core, you'll find that we're all the same species. We have the same basic wants and needs, the same fears and joys. Regardless of the title on your business card, or the balance in your bank account.....you and me....we're pretty much the same.
This week is a relationship reset week. Please, don't brush this off by saying "I was raised to treat everyone with the same respect". Rather, think about it.....put some real thought to it....and then decide if perhaps there is more you can do to improve your relationships...
Thanks....oh, and don't go to Twitter for advice on life.....just look at the cute pics of dogs and cats.
Good Selling!
